A beautifully written, immensely personal piece. I'll not comment further, except to say I was very moved. I also agree with a remark you wrote elsewhere in these comments, about fiction writers often writing about their own family, whether they realise it consciously or not. Certainly, with the benefit of hindsight, a lot of my fiction contains elements of my past family history (heavily disguised), even though it wasn't intentional.
