A brilliant review. I was an emotional wreck after this film for many reasons, and as you say, it has universal resonance. For me, the scene in the cafe when Jamie Bell and Claire Foy tell Andrew Scott it would never be enough, regardless of when they died, absolutely hit me for six, emotionally. I can imagine anyone else who has lost a parent would feel the same way.
As a huge Pet Shop Boys fan, I was thrilled to see Always on My Mind put to such brilliant use in the film, in such a key scene. However, as with Aftersun's use of Queen and David Bowie's Under Pressure, I now can't hear that song without getting tears in my eyes. Why the hell does Paul Mescal keep starring in films that "ruin" my all-time favourite records in this way?
My review is here, if you're interested. :)
