A finely written piece (despite my disagreement with you re: E.T.), with some great comparison. I think The 400 Blows is a masterpiece too, and one of Truffaut's finest. I also think it is an interesting contrast with The Fabelmans, in view of the difference in class advantage, background, etc, as you rightly point out.
