A great piece. I can't say I'm familiar with Anthony Bourdain other than hearing his name. Perhaps he's less well-known in the UK? Or maybe not. I generally don't watch television, so perhaps that's why (cinema and literature are my primary focus).

As for a biopic, as with all these things, I try to keep an open mind. A lot of biopics are cliched, by-the-numbers, and don't really further the cinematic art in any meaningful way. There are exceptions, of course.
