A list of this kind is all but impossible for me to draw up, so I won't even try, except to say that my personal list would include Pet Shop Boys, New Order, and The Smiths. Probably U2 as well (it greatly annoys me how it is trendy to sneer at them these days).
However, to comment a little on the songs here, the only one I take massive issue with is Imagine, which I consider hugely overrated. Give me Jealous Guy any day over Imagine. Also, whilst there are many Queen songs I prefer to Bohemian Rhapsody.
Dancing Queen is my second favourite ABBA track (after Lay All Your Love On Me) so that's a good shout. Great to see David Bowie on the list too. He's another one who'd probably be in my top ten, though not necessarily for this song. Speaking of my personal top ten, I'd also include Madonna (something from her 1983 - 1990 heyday), and something from Kylie Minogue (something from the early 2000s renaissance). Oh hell, it's impossible to choose, because I'd also want Blur, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Suede, Pulp, Radiohead, the KLF, Spice Girls, and Take That, from the 1990s. I'd want Muse and Girls Aloud from the 2000s. And more recently, I'd want something by Florence and the Machine, perhaps something by Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, etc, etc. It's impossible to choose!
