A masterpiece indeed, completely agreed. What happened to Polanski as a child in World War II was horrific as was what happened to Sharon Tate later on. No wonder he was messed up. Not that I'm making excuses for his later actions, I hasten to add. Besides, this is a review of the film, not his personal life. But I do take your point regardless. A great director. A deeply flawed human being.
