A terrific final scene and a lovely little wink at the audience, as you say. :)

 The Fabelman…rides toward his future and a horizon positioned at the center of the frame — until, without a cut, Spielberg, the god behind The Fabelmans, manipulates the image to drop the horizon to the bottom of the frame where it will be “more interesting”. Reality turned into fiction to reveal a truth, with the added fun of Spielberg pulling the curtain…
