A well-written argument. As someone who has more time to read books about submarines now his wife (who wears glasses) has a job, your general point is excellent. (I don't do "therapy" though. I'm quite happy with my toxic masculinity levels. ;) )

However, Denise Shelton's interpretation has always been mine, ie his horror is at her loneliness, fear, etc. I love this film. In fact, I recently wrote this piece on it, if you're interested. :)
