A well-written, well-argued piece which I don't entirely agree with.

Personally, I don't value a film based on box office in any way. I accept that certain types of films aren't necessarily going to prove popular, but that doesn't make them failures in the artistic sense.

I think The Power of the Dog is an outstanding piece of work. Yes, you have to be patient, and yes, it isn't for everyone - individual response to any work of art is based on personality, temperament, upbringing, culture, religious belief, personal experience, and any number of other factors - but I don't believe it is necessarily a bad thing to ask that a viewer do some of the heavy lifting when interpreting a story.
