Absolutely bloody right. Same here. When I started on Medium, it caused me physical pain to translate my articles from English to American when submitting pieces to The Writing Cooperative (it was then part of their rules, though they've since relaxed that, which is why my earlier articles there are in American and my later articles are in English).

I always feel like a traitor to the Crown if I use American. I expect to be whisked off to the Tower of London on a charge of High Treason.
