Absolutely fantastic story. I also despise snakes. I'm with Indiana Jones on that one. I remember one time when my children were younger we went to a creepy crawly handling session at a zoo. I didn't mind holding giant spiders, millipedes, stick insects, or anything like that, but snakes... I had an instant revulsion, akin to repelling poles of a magnet. Perhaps it is a primal instinct that goes back to the Garden of Eden. Who knows? Anyway, as I said, great story.
