Actually that was only added in later VHS copies. The original version (which I saw in the cinema twice during the first run in 1985) does not. Also, I always understood the intention of the ending as a joke, in that Marty and the Doc should fly off into another adventure. I didn't actually expect the story to continue later (which of course it did).
