Admittedly, I've not watched this is some years, but I've seen it a couple of times and found it rubbish on both occasions. If you removed Tim Burton's name from the film, you'd have to be psychic to know he directed it, as there's no trace of his usual flair or gothic sensibility. 20th Century Fox studio bosses evidently bludgeoned it out of him. And the ending is ridiculous (though sort-of inspired by what's in the novel).
