Agreed. Utterly insane. The only correct response if you (as a CEO, Middle Manager, or whatever) have had to lay off staff is to (privately) support those affected as much as possible - generous severance, write them a great reference, lots of time off to look for other work as they work through their final weeks, and so forth. What you don't do is post self-serving nonsense of this kind. If you have misgivings, you suffer in silence and remain professional (as I often had to, when forced to cut staff due to instructions from upper management). You are not the one losing a job, so be grateful.
