All fair enough. Personally, I don’t handwring over this specific issue (my response was meant to be amusingly flippant, not personal, ie I’d say this to anyone, but clearly didn’t come across that way). In the case of Solo, it doesn’t bother me at all. But yes, there are poorly written female characters in other films that could do with more depth, even if a self conscious must-pass-Bechdel-test box ticking exercise isn’t necessarily the way to go about it.

Certainly I can’t understand why anyone would think, say, Lawrence of Arabia is a bad film for not passing (I know that’s not what you’re saying here, but I’ve met people who try to argue that with a straight face).
