Also, had they made it to America, I highly doubt Jack and Rose would have survived as a couple. But as an escapist romance, this film works brilliantly. It also works as a satisfying disaster film. Indeed, the whole thing is excellent in a raw ambition blunt instrument sort of way (though not without significant flaws).
