Finally, I titled this article “history or hoax” for a specific reason. The majority of historians today believe that hagiographies are worthless for real study because they include miracles, from Saint George slaying the dragon to Saint Teresa levitating to Saint Francis receiving the stigmata. On this point, I would argue that the miracle stories do not in any way detract from the history the accounts contain; the stories work as history (or historical biography) totally apart from any supernatural events they might contain.

Alternatively, you could simply take the miracles at face value. I have no problem believing many of them. Dragons are a bit of a stretch though. :)
