An amazing piece that 1) has some superb, hilarious anecdotes, and 2) sums up my own attitude about this issue, which is this: I follow rules that are logical or strategically advantageous. Otherwise, I ignore them. Some of the most dangerous people in the world are people who follow rules "because they are the rules" regardless of how idiotic they might be. Such people should never be in positions of power, and sadly often are.
