An excellent interview, and I am in agreement with many of his sentiments (especially re: the self-conscious insertion of "messages" into fiction). Also, it's important to note he hasn't always been the rom-com bloke, even in the midst of that era. For instance, he appeared in films like Maurice and The Remains of the Day before Four Weddings and a Funeral, and he was in An Awfully Big Adventure directly afterwards (he's great in that one).
