An excellent piece, as usual. I do think half the problem is people need to get offline and back into the real world. One of the things I most hate about the internet is whilst it has brought people of common interest together (for example, I've met some wonderful fellow film fans), it also brings together people in echo chambers of self-affirming stupidity.

Also, and I hope you'll forgive the plug, but I think you might enjoy my novel Peaceful Quiet Lives, which is a dystopian love story that also satirises the worst fears of both sides in the US culture wars.
