An interesting and thought provoking essay. Regarding the male/female gaze issue, I'd say one thing: Context is everything. In a superhero film like this, I entirely agree with what you're saying. Beyond that, I believe everyone objectifies to a greater or lesser degree (if they are honest) and I enjoy seeing films that reflect/explore this, or send it up, on the male or female side. I'm an equal opportunities objectifier, and can't abide some of the more puritanical sentiments that seem to have arisen as a side effect of this (important) debate.
