An interesting observation: My eldest son and I adore vintage Doctor Who and we've just worked our way through the entire Jon Pertwee era. Perhaps surprisingly, there are a lot of what would be considered "progressive" themes. Stories like The Green Death (the one with the giant maggots in Wales) contain concerns about pollution, environmentalism, plant-based alternative foods, and so forth. Yet it has not one iota of "wokeferatu" about it. It's entertaining and thought-provoking without once condescending the audience.
