Another excellent article. I particularly share your love for Barry Lyndon, quite possibly the most visually beautiful film I've ever seen. I'm astonished it had such a poor critical reception at the time, though it has since rightly been reassessed and is now considered a masterpiece. I find it hypnotic. Slow at times, but never boring, and contrary to some assertions, profoundly emotional, rather than cold.
My top five Kubrick films, in order of personal preference (not in order of greatness):
5) Spartacus
4) Paths of Glory
3) Barry Lyndon
2) Dr Strangelove
1) 2001: A Space Odyssey
