As a Christian to your atheist, I also despise the idea of book bans. The Bible (which I have fully read a number of times) is frequently horrifying beyond belief. I warned my children about how dangerous it is by telling them to simply take a look at human history. For centuries it has been perverted and twisted into a horrible weapon to justify everything from the Crusades to the Spanish Inquisition, Nazi Germany, the Ku Klux Klan, and more.

Furthermore, I don't believe in patronising children in fiction (you might find this piece I wrote a while back of interest - apologies for the US English, but that was back when the Writing Cooperative insisted on it).
