As a film buff, one thing I'm pleased about this year is that cinema is once again a robust topic of conversation among people with a more casual interest. There are lots of strongly held views on the nominated films, and the films in 2023 were varied and fascinating - including those from mainstream Hollywood (for once). I hope the latter is a sign of things to come, so the industry becomes less reliant on superheroes. :)
