As a writer of novels and short stories, I suppose for me, I never consider watching films or reading novels a waste of time (even if they aren't good) as I am a continual student of storytelling (the study of bad storytelling is arguably more vital than the study of good, learning what to avoid). In contrast, video games have no bearing on such matters.
Also, seeing films means I write reviews, which earn me money, so there's that. :)
