As Film Editor of the Fanfare publication, let me offer the following advice:
Plan ahead. Submit your articles knowing the timeframes of the publications in question. For instance, with Fanfare, it may take a day or two for us to respond. Assuming you have been accepted as a writer (we have a filtering process for that, as otherwise we are swamped with submissions, which would lead to even longer response times), submit your piece ahead of time, not necessarily expecting it to appear within a few hours. We are often busy, or else we have other pressing matters to attend to (work or personal) outside of Medium. Simply plan accordingly.
If that doesn't work for you, then there's no point approaching Fanfare. I'd also advise the same with any publication. Gauge response times and then plan accordingly. For instance, The Writing Cooperative is an excellent publication, but it is run solely by the brilliant Justin Cox, and he gets swamped with submissions, so you will just have to wait your turn, which could be up to a week or so. Again, plan accordingly. If you want your article to hit on or around a certain date, make sure you submit it well before, as needed.
