As usual, I can only view incredulous from this side of the Atlantic. Here in the UK we have our problems, but thank God mass shootings are extremely rare (about three in the last three decades). Why? Sensible gun laws. That (some) Americans seem unable to grasp this staggers me. And yes - you are quite right to be cynical about the school shooting bingo thing - thoughts and prayers, empty words from politicians, desire for reform, pushback from the gun lobby and their political puppets, rinse and repeat.
