Blue Velvet wasn't released until 1986, so it would have been eligible for the Oscars the following year. But of course, it wasn't even nominated, shamefully. Platoon won that year.

Of the films nominated for Best Picture in 1986 (for the films released in 1985), I'd have voted for Witness over Out of Africa.
