Brokeback Mountain is definitely a better choice than Crash. So was Munich (also nominated that year), though I probably would have gone outside the nominees and given Best Picture to Batman Begins (my favourite of Nolan's Batman trilogy, and the second best superhero film of all time, to my mind, after Superman). :)
