But if your mother is dying, or likely to die any time soon, why go to the cinema in the first place? Outside of that, a tragedy like that is impossible to predict. We managed before mobile phones. Why can we not manage without them now? I still don't think this is a valid reason to keep a phone on. How will you know the message is from someone informing you about your mother? If you check every message during a film, you'll just annoy people with a pinging screen reading messages that aren't urgent.

People bringing in babies is sheer lunacy. There used to be a rule that babies weren't admitted. You had to be able to walk at least! Yes, I know some cinemas have "bringing in baby" screenings for young mothers (which is fine, if they are advertised as such) but for general screenings? Insanity.
