Certainly the case for me. I find tremendous comfort in masochistic catharsis, for reasons that are doubtless down to personality, temperament, upbringing, and my past experiences (I enjoy romantic tragedies for much the same reason as I love horror films, and consider weepies in general the flip side of the same coin as horror). I've written about this at length elsewhere, so I hope you'll forgive me for leaving a couple of links, in case you're interested. And thank you for this excellent piece (about an excellent film). A fascinating read. :)
