Completely agreed re: High Noon. Singin' in the Rain would also have been a great choice for 1952.
As for which films I reckon will "mature" into classics from the last 20ish years, here are a few possibilities off the top of my head: The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Oldboy, The Lives of Others, There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men, A Prophet, The Dark Knight, Inception, Dunkirk, Interstellar (and possibly others from Nolan, including Oppenheimer), Inside Out, Sicario, Dune (both parts), Parasite, The Tree of Life, The Babadook, Victoria, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, The Hurt Locker, Requiem for a Dream, Lost in Translation, Dogtooth, Brokeback Mountain, The Incredibles, The Social Network, Amores Perros, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Gladiator, Volver, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Handmaiden, Dogville, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gravity, Get Out, Spirited Away, Mulholland Drive, In the Mood for Love, Boyhood, 12 Years a Slave, and Paddington (both films).
