Dillon Picks

The first in a regular round-up of stories I’ve enjoyed on Medium.

Since starting on Medium in January, I’ve stumbled across some terrific writers. In view of this, I’ve decided to run a regular column, possibly monthly, highlighting stories of an exceptionally high standard that I consider worthy of wider recognition and readership.

Getting on the Dillon Picks list will not be easy. I have strict assessment criteria, and competition for inclusion is fierce. Some writers may crop up again and again. Others may be one hit wonders. I should add that these picks aren’t necessarily from the calendar month. I reserve the right to resurrect older pieces that I’ve only just discovered. I’ll try to aim for no more than ten pieces at a time, but on this occasion, I’ve selected a bumper crop of thirteen.

I will also say none of these articles will be about how someone made eleventy-stupid million by typing a few random words and breathing in the right direction. Or how to be happy by thinking happy thoughts. Or similar interminable content-for-contents-sake nonsense.

Instead, these are well-written articles that offer something of substance on a variety of subjects. They can be thoughtful, instructive, insightful, witty, poignant, shocking, controversial, poignant, and sometimes just laugh-out-loud hilarious…
