A stare that strikes fear into the heart of Medium: The Dillon Empire judges your articles. Photo by author.

The last day of the month heralds the unveiling of the Dillon Empire’s favourite articles read on Medium over the past few weeks. Imperial selection criteria remain as stringent as ever. For those unfamiliar with what qualifies, here’s a summary of articles that absolutely and emphatically will not get my seal of approval.

First, anything written by AI, or pro-AI in any way. The Dillon Empire accepts no compromise on this. I am a full-blown Butlerian Jihadist: “Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind.” For those who don’t understand that reference, read Dune by Frank Herbert.

Additionally, I will not consider earnings bragging, hustle porn, vacuous trend-chasing, we’re-all-doomed apocalypse porn, professionally offended blithering, sweeping statement clickbait, blanket tirades against entire people groups, and ill-informed advice from those with no experience or credentials whatsoever. Such articles will be granted a first-class ticket to the planet Krop Tor, directly after the collapse of the gravity funnel preventing it from falling into a black hole (see Doctor Who episode The Impossible Planet to comprehend that reference).
