Excellent article. I've always been completely anti school uniforms (and dress codes for that matter). They're just a stupid racket for clothing manufacturers that have no impact on the work or learning (or lack thereof) taking place. The Germans had the right idea by viewing them as inherently fascist and abolishing them en masse after World War II.
When it comes to work dress codes, the one place I accept where uniforms may be necessary is in customer facing jobs such as supermarkets and so forth (so customers know where to make enquiries). But dress codes in offices and whatnot are just pointless. Where I used to work, I didn't care what my staff wore. They could come to work dressed in a Chewbacca onesie for all I cared, as long as they did their jobs brilliantly. Actually, one member of staff did once come to work in a Chewbacca onesie. She was quite brilliant too. But HR took issue with it. Boring killjoys.
