Excellent article. I often think snobbery towards genre fiction occurs because of the bad examples dragging everyone else down. For instance, there is a lot of really bad fantasy fiction out there, because the authors put worldbuilding as the selling point rather than the background in a story exploring a universally resonant theme. I discuss that a bit here, if you're interested. :)
