Excellent article and great insights into you and Sophie. I'm one hundred percent in favour of showing children dark fairy tales, and Coraline is a major favourite of mine (both the novel and the film).

To your wider point, I also lament the loss of 2D hand-drawn animation, and I adore stop-motion. If you haven't checked out the Wallace and Gromit short films (and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit feature) I suspect you'd love them.
