Fantastic anecdote. Duran Duran are the first band I can remember thinking were amazing (during their 1980 - 1985 heyday). I love how articulate Nick Rhodes is compared with so many so-called pop stars today. His knowledge of cinema, literature, music, and art in general is phenomenal. He's articulate and a joy to listen to in inteviews (like this one, for instance). :)

Later in the 1980s, I was more into Pet Shop Boys, New Order, and The Smiths, but Duran Duran always had a special place in my heart.
