Firstly, a good article, as always.
Secondly, I have a love/hate relationship with Lars von Trier, though latterly it is mostly hate. I loved The Kingdom. I hated Breaking the Waves. Loved Dancer in the Dark. Hated The Idiots. Loved Dogville. Hated Antichrist. You get the idea. Yet weirdly, Melancholia is only occasion where I felt utter indifference. Also, since then I've pretty much hated all his films - both parts of Nymphomaniac and The House that Jack Built, for instance. Yes, he's a provovateur, but so is Paul Verhoeven and he's a damn sight less pretentious and more entertaining.
