Firstly, a great article celebrating a clutch of terrific films.

Secondly, since I always go by UK release dates, I think of The English Patient as 1997 (I loved it by the way, as I'm a sucker for epic doomed romance when done well, as this was, brilliantly). For the same reason, I consider Shine to also be a 1997 release.

By that same metric, that makes Se7en a 1996 release in my book. Same with Heat. And Primal Fear. Also, Fly Away Home - a massively underrated lovely film. I think Matilda came out in 1996 too. And how about Michael Collins? Historically questionable perhaps, but riveting, with a dynamite performance from Liam Neeson.
