Firstly, thank you. Secondly, fair enough if horror isn't your thing. It's not for everyone. Personally, I love the masochistic catharsis of out-of-body-experience terror whilst watching a horror film, and I'm a big advocate of the genre. It makes me feel alive (conversely, I love good weepie romantic tragedy too, for similar reasons, and have often argued that psychologically, weepies and horror films are two sides of the same coin). But it's not for everyone. As I mentioned to someone else in these comments, it's a bit like single malt whisky. People either love it or hate it, but those who love it (like me) really love it.
Regarding The Substance specifically, I think the ending was superb. If you scroll down this comment section and look for my response to Elizabeth Sobieski, you'll get an explanation of why. :)
