Firstly, this is an excellent essay. I agree with much of it.
Secondly, Gone with the Wind is one of my favourite films. It is an enjoyable melodramatic wallow with some great characters and performances. If people take issue with that, then frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.
Thirdly, on the issue of providing curated context, I must say I am prepared to tolerate it (however condescending it may be) as a compromise if the alternative is censorship, which I absolutely will not tolerate. Fourthly, if curation is bothersome, I recommend becoming a strictly physical media person. Here's my argument for why, if you're interested in that as well. :)
