Five things:

1. This is a superbly written review.

2. I think one's tolerance for this film depends on whether one is a convert to the church of Anderson. If not, I suspect it will rather test the patience, despite its undoubted technical brilliance.

3. I agree that Jeffrey Wright gives the most memorable performance.

4. I do think this lacks the emotional resonance of Anderson's best work (Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel), and for all the bells and whilstles, is much ado about nothing. In short, I liked the film a fair bit less than you did.
