Funnily enough, I never feel nostalgic about VHS. It was always a horrid format - low-res, panned and scanned, with horrible scratches if the tape was used too much, etc. As a child, I used to go on and on to adults about how crap it was compared with 35mm projection in the correct aspect ratio (doubtless boring them to tears, but I was right, dammit).

DVD was a Godsend in comparison, as films were finally in their proper aspect ratios. Blu-Ray and 4K were even better (you know I don't do streaming).

As for the cosiness, I really didn't get it. I found the film extremely dark. But obviously, it is entirely possible for two people to look at a work of art and come away with separate things. I look forward to reading your responses and reasons in full.
