Generally, I agree. But I think when films claim to be based on fact, they need to be based on fact. Once they make this claim, there's a sliding scale of offence in terms of getting things wrong. For example:

Dunkirk: Using a type of boat in the background that wasn't in use until 1941 (the film is set in 1940) - Nobody with an ounce of sanity cares.

U-571: Depicting the Americans capturing the enigma decoding machine at a time they weren't even in the war, when it was in fact a British operation - Unacceptable, and deserves all the derision it received.
