Genuine question: Do you believe it is healthy to take ownership of it as a writer? Some of the traumatic experiences of my past have found their way into fiction writing, often in heavily disguised form. I also confess I've found it cathartic. But I do accept lots of this stuff is based around personality, temperament, etc, and others may not experience the same catharsis. My love of the horror genre is another example. I derive masochistic pleasure from being ruthlessly terrorised by a scary or disturbing film, especially one that depicts incident similar to things I've experienced. I appreciate dark humour for the same reason. Others can't abide it.
