Gone with the Wind - A hugely enjoyable soapy wallow with a witty script, engaging characters, and my all-time favourite crane shot to boot.

Forrest Gump - Yes, The Shawshank Redemption or Pulp Fiction should have beaten this to Best Picture, and it is corny as hell, but I still love it, and it brings a tear to my eye.

2001: A Space Odyssey - As I have said elsewhere (here, for instance) there are those who think 2001 is the greatest science fiction film ever made, and there are those who are wrong. Also, "it's full of stars" comes from the deeply average sequel, 2010. That film should not be mentioned in the same hallowed breath as 2001.

Titanic - A blunt instrument, but an effective one. I give Cameron credit for raw ambition. The disaster movie stuff is effectively tense, and the romance, albeit one-dimensional, does work in a broad brushstroke sort of way. Another film that needs the cinema to be properly appreciated.

Midnight Cowboy - This one I agree does look dated, but I still like it. That ending is heartwrenching.

Films I think are overrated? The two Avatar films for a start, and Everything Everywhere All At Once (or Everything Interminable All At Once, as I call it).
