Gone with the Wind is one of my favourite films, and I make no apology for that. For me it is an enjoyable, melodramatic, soapy wallow, with some well-defined characters, and major technical achievements. Many parts of it are iconic.

It is also undoubtedly problematic in all the ways you describe in this piece. I find no difficulty compartmentalising both aspects of the film, but I appreciate that some people struggle with that.
