Good article. My take on this is that it is important to know when to show and when to tell. Not every incident that gets the plot from A to B warrants "showing". Certain things can be summarised for pacing reasons as much as anything. Many novels feature chunks of "telling" for this reason (check out Philip Pullman's recent novels continuing the His Dark Materials trilogy, for instance).
